Electrolade blackcurrant flavour powder sachets, a rehydration mixture, is taken with water to help replace lost fluids and electrolytes when suffering with diarrhoea. It is also a necessity to maintain sufficient fluid intake to replace fluid loss from stools.

Oral rehydration therapy of electrolyte and fluid loss (dehydration) associated with diarrhoea
Adults: One to two reconstituted sachets after every loose motion, up to 16 in 24 hours. Elderly: As for adults, but take care not to over-hydrate. Children: One reconstituted sachet after every loose motion, up to 12 in 24 hours Infants under 2 years: Initially stop all feeds except breastfeeding. Encourage baby to drink Electrolade at one to one and a half times the usual volume of feed . Consult pack leaflets for directions for reconstitution.
Sachets each containing powder which dissolves to form a clear, flavoured solution of sodium chloride 236mg, potassium chloride 300mg, sodium bicarbonate 500mg, anhydrous dextrose 4g.

Caution: Oral treatment inappropriate in severe dehydration requiring parenteral fluids or intestinal obstruction. Medical supervision required in renal disease, severe and persistent diarrhoea and vomiting, inability to drink or retain oral fluids. Seek immediate medical advice in infants under 2 with severe diarrhoea and vomiting. Consult doctor if symptoms persist longer than 24-48 hours. Diabetics should note sugar content
